Dog Trainer and Service Animal Coach
Behavioral and New Skill Coaching for all Dogs
Pine Street Assistance Dogs specializes in the training of puppies and dogs of all ages in Philadelphia area.  We also retrain highly trained dogs in new tasks and behaviors and correct nuisance behaviors that have slowly crept into daily life. Or, we can help when a dog suddenly develops bad behavior because of a change of environment and locale.

Service dogs are working dogs. They assist humans with physical, neurologic, or psychological disabilities and perform everyday tasks. They help people overcome limitations caused by a disability and increase owner's independence and freedom. Service dogs can provide alerts before their handler experiences a medical problem or assist while the problem occurs. Well-trained service dogs provide a wide range of assistance to address every kind of physical limitation. They alert people with hearing impairment to sounds such as doorbells or ringing phones. They can help people with a number of issues to function successfully in public, helping them to feel secure and easing stressful situations. Each service dog and handler team is individually coached to address these unique needs.

    Specialized Training
A service dog or an assistance dog is trained to perform custom tasks for a disabled person. Taught in Philadelphia, the tasks are tailored to each handler individually, such as retrieving dropped objects, opening doors, towing a lightweight wheelchair, carrying lightweight items, bringing canes and walkers, and calling for help. Furthermore, service and assistance dogs help their handlers to be more active and feel comfortable in public.

    Dog /Handler Partner teams
Dog /handler partner teams consist of a person with a disability living with a highly trained dog that is specialized in handling this person’s special needs. An assistance dog must not solicit attention or cause disorders in public. Its focus must be solely on its handler. It must be able to ignore distractions such as birds, squirrels and other dogs. In addition, service dogs must remain calm in crowds and environments that may not be dog-friendly, such as elevators, airports, food courts, meetings and offices.
Therapy Dogs
Therapy dogs are not service dogs and are not protected under the ADA laws. These wonderful animals bring joy and happiness to people of all ages in hospitals and hospices. Please contact your local hospital to find out more about thier programs and certification.

Dogs for Veterans
Perhaps one of the most beneficial remedies is the unconditional love and devotion a dog can provide  to  their  lifelong  partners.  Once a strong bond forms between the person-dog relationship, the dog’s trust, devotion and a desire to please will follow. This is an essential program  to reabilitate  our  veterans,  and we encourage  you  to participate in any way you can.
Pine Street Dog ready for a walk
A dog has no use for fancy cars, big homes, or designer clothes. A water log stick will do just fine. A dog doesn't care if you are rich or poor, clever or dull, smart or dumb. Give him your heart  and he'll give you his. How many people can you say that about? How many people make you feel pure and special? How many people can make you feel extraordinary?
